VENICE, OSPREY, SARASOTA - FLORIDA : http://SarongGoddess.com/Travel/VENICE-OSPREY-SARASOTA-FLORIDA/9954000_3CbcE

I left the Venice, Nokomis, Casey Key, Osprey, Sarasota - Florida area July 2005 but I as getting "signs" from the Universe that I was to move to Costa Rica for some "Bigger Purpose" (boy has the growth here been BIG with LOTS MORE to do!!) but I was & am VERY MUCH STILL IN LOVE with the area & Goddess forbid IF I HAD to go back to the States, I'd go back to the Venice, Nokomis, Casey Key, Osprey, Sarasota area in a heartbeat.

Unfortunately, when I lived there, that was in my pre-digital camera days - heck - any camera days so I don't have lots of pictures (other than many of those below that were taken with a regular camera & later taken with a digital camera) but here are some photos & my friends Danae & Michael (that used to live in Costa Rica till they said "NO MORE!!") are now sharing pictures to help make me more homesick (interesting one might think considering I am FROM Southern California - grew up 10 minutes from Disneyland & the beach, lived in the San Fernando Valley, San Francisco for 17 years & San Diego [near the Zoo] for 4 1/2 years that my heart at this point would still be in this area I only lived in for 3 1/2 years but it was TOTALLY a "Spirit Driven" move that brought me here & I LOVE this area!!

I hear times are VERY CHALLENGING (EVERYWHERE) & LOTS of things are closing down but maybe you might find this photo album interesting if you're going to visit or move there.
CLOSED: Albertson’s, Kmart (ALL), Day’s Inn, Holiday Inn

I've been BIG TIME missin' Pat at Angel Ministries, my FAV "new agey" type store Serenity Gardens (booo - they're no longer there!! Pam made her transition & Patti is taking time off), my fav herb store Cathy's Sweet Sage (booo - no longer there), Crow's Nest, M&D in Osprey (YUMMMM Greek dishes & strawberry waffles & their rice pudding), Frankies, Mi Pueblo, Thailand, Marco Polo Chinese Buffet, Ichiban Sushi & ESPECIALLY Casey Key Fish Restaurant!!! Also, Wed. & Sun. Sunset Drumming Circle on Casey Key (& Sat. night on Siesta Key in Sarasota [more party atmosphere though] - http://Sarasotafl.org/cms/d/and_the_beat_goes_on.php )! 2nd Saturday of month - 10am-3pm - PSYCHIC FAIRE at Angel Ministries - Venice (http://AngelMinistriesOfFlorida.com/psychicfair.htm) - Readings -$15/15 minutes
Sat. – gathering between 6-7pm-ish (it’s VERY spontaneous!!) –SUNSET DRUMMING CIRCLE on the beach - Casey Key / Nokomis (Wed. also in Peak Season – I think that’s about U.S.Thanksgiving to Easter). This Is one of the activities I MISS THE MOST living in Costa Rica!!! Bring a drum or some sort of musical instrument & just join in (I put kidney beans in a plastic bottle & called it an instrument) or get in the middle & just move!!! It’s a WILD looking group of people! JUST BE!! VERY MUCH individuals!! Hence you have lots of people that WISH they could be more free surrounding them watching – OCCASIONALLY joining in (that’s SOOOO COOL!!!!). Watch VERY CAREFULLY for the “Green Flash” that few people are blessed to see (not me yet) that happens JUST as the sun hits the horizon. People then cheer/bless the day off!! This is NOT the party place that I’ve observed the times I’ve been to the Sarasota circle so even kids are welcome (I think it’s GREAT to bring kids not used to being around “different” types of people as it opens their eyes/hearts to see people that are different are just that – different – NO threat & maybe they’ll feel inspired to be more free in their world!! See pics at http://escape-to-sarasota.com/nokomis-beach.htm / http://NokomisBeachDrumCircle.com There’s a publication - Bay Area Drumming that you can get a free internet copy of at BayAreaDrumming@TampaBay.rr.com
Sat. - Downtown Farmer’s Market – HOURS: 7am-1pm (I’ve also seen noon). LOCATION: Sarasota - Main St & N Lemon Ave. http://SarasotaDowntown.com/farmers_market.html
Sat. 7pm - Spiritual Message & on the 4th Sat. of each month they also have some sort of activity afterwards - inspiring movie, music, or group discussion replaces the usual meditation and message format. I AM HEALING ARTS CENTER -(927-6797 / http://IamHealingArts.com) - LOCATION: SARASOTA – 1918 Robinhood St.)
Sun. – Siesta Key Public Beach – Sarasota http://SiestaDrumCrcle.com / http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SWFLDrumCircles/) WHEN: About an hour or 2 before Sunset. To me, this one is LOTS more of a party place (especially with onlookers drinking). It’s one of the largest ongoing drumming circles in the country.
Last Sunday of Month - SUNSET MEDITATION & DRUMMING FOR PEACE – Sarasota – North end of Turtle Beach

SEGWAYS In Sabana Park, Costa Rica : Sunday (Sept. 20) I met up with new buds Elena Ross, Diane Hunter & Iris for a spin at the FUNNEST THING in Sabana Park - riding a SEGWAY!!!!

First off, in the 5 years I've been coming to Costa Rica & living here - I'd NEVER actually gone INSIDE of Sabana Park!!

I'd seen SEGWAYs in Sarasota, FL & San Diego & had REALLY wanted to do them but in the States, they're often around $100 - out of my budget so when Chappell & her daughter Tammy gave us the opportunity to take a sample spin on the Segway I JUMPED on it in a heartbeat!!

I was AWESOME FUN for EVERYONE (over 8) on these eco-friendly electric scooters!!! & EASY!!! I was concerned since, as many of you know, I'm not to stable just walking - but it was a BREEZE!!!!

Sebastian was our Guide EXTRAORDINAIRE!! He spoke good English & was FUN!!!

It's the BEST (& laziest) way to see Sabana Park - Costa Rica's version of Central or Golden Gate Park that's had LOTS of improvements like a new Roller Skating Rink & the new Power Aide Jogging Trails plus all the other FUN in the park like Kite Flying, horseback riding, the mini-Zip Line/Canopy Tour (GREAT for someone unsure if they can handle it!!), the lake, LOTS of sports being played & picnicing & various other things happening (LOTS of concerts/events). In Feb. the Museo de Arte Costarricense should be re-opening!!

This is a TOTAL MUST CHECK OUT this TOTALLY FUN activity!! Get a group of friends/family together to do a Day in the Park!! (they have a picnic table right in front).

SPECIAL PRICING FOR PEOPLE LIVING IN CR (bring proof you live here like your Cedula or your passport showing you living here full time):
15 min. for 4,000-colones &
30 min. for 7,000-c
(ALL Discounted rates are CASH ONLY) (sorry for the last minute of this but we JUST threw this together!)

NON-LOCALS RATES (currently - subject to change): $69-April-Nov. for an hour

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

WHERE CAN WE FIND SEGWAY:
In Sabana Park - near the NORTH / EAST corner - behind the Museo de Arte Costarricense (formerly the air terminal) - look for the BIG statue of Leon Cortez - across the street from Banco Nacional. They're located behind those. Look for their Cream colored TENT & the FABULOUS Chappell and/or her daughter!!!
MAP: http://SegwayCostaRica.com/ecotours/graphics/map-tour.gif

WHEN DO SEGWAY TOURS RUN: Currently just Sundays 9am-5pm (or until the rain comes. Lunch time tends to be the quietest time) but if you can get a group of at least 4 people (at the FULL rate), they can accommodate you!!!

AGE MINIMUM: 8 (ish) and 40 pounds (ish)

RESERVATIONS/MORE INFORMATION: Call Chappell at 2-232-4822 /http://SegwayCostaRica.com/ecotours / ecotours@SegwayCostaRica.com

Luna Nuevo TOURS : Luna Nuevo Optional TOURS & HIKES

Our guided tours & hikes are just one of the ways in which we stand out from other area eco-lodges. As an Organic BioDynamic Farm we have provided tours to botanists & biologists since our founding in 1994. When we built our eco-lodges in 2004 we began to offer these tours to our guests too!

On this guided tour of our organic biodynamic farm you will learn the details of what keeps our crops healthy, from our happy water buffalo to the wiggling worms in our compost. Your tour will begin by walking through our Cacao orchard, & past the 50,000 acre children’s eternal rainforest that borders our property.

Next, you will take a stroll through Juan´s organic garden, where you will taste our numerous varieties of plants & herbs, which we serve daily in our restaurant. Following Juan’s garden you will see our pigs, goats, & chickens & learn how they contribute to the sustainability of the farm.

Your tour will end at our composting area, where we will show you how our composting & biodynamic systems create a more fertile l& for ourselves & for future generations. For additional details or to schedule this tour please contact us.

STARTS: 9:30am. DURATION:2 hours

PRICE: Luna Guests: FREE to Guests of the WELL-BEING TOUR. Non-Guests: $20 (add a DELICIOUS organic lunch for only $12)

On this farm tour you will learn all about our larger farm animals, our cheese making facility, & our new pond purification system (blackwater system). For those who are interested we can start the tour early in the morning so you get a chance to help our farmhands Yeudy & Fernando milk the cows.

Next door to the cows are the water buffalo, where our guide will explain to you all the ways the water buffalo contribute to the farm. Your next stop will be the cheese making facilities, where we will show you the cheese making process, & let you taste some fresh goat & cow cheese that we make on the farm.

Your final stop is the tour of our blackwater system, one of the most recent ways that we have increased the sustainability of our farm. Our blackwater system, is a system in which we put all of the waste that the cows & goats produce to good use. Our guide will explain how the many different plants, fish, clams, & microorganisms filter the water, allowing it to be safely released into the local streams & rivers. SECRET WATERFALL HIKE
_ Beautiful waterfall & swimming hole in the heart of the rainforest
_ Amazing views of the surrounding area & rainforest
_ Light lunch & refreshments provided
_ Minimum 4 people per trip
Take our secret waterfall hike & enjoy a Costa Rica that few tourists are lucky enough to see. This rigorous hike takes you up back roads past local farmers, & ends with a 10 minute hike through untouched rainforest into the heart of the jungle.

The final destination is a 30’ waterfall & swimming hole, & believe us, the cool water feels very refreshing after the hike. After you take a dip into the water, the natural beauty of the rainforest starts to sink in. Around you there are giant trees, vines, & tropical birds. Enjoy the view as water runs down the side of the accompanying cliff, which creates a beautiful shimmering effect as it flows over the deep green moss.

Note: The hike to the waterfall is almost all uphill, & includes a little climbing. Therefore, it should only be undertaken by those in good physical condition. For additional details or to schedule this hike please contact us.

STARTS: 9am. DURATION: 3.5 hours

PRICE: Luna Guests ONLY: $45

CAVALANGA TRAIL HIKE
Allow our experienced guides to uncover the mysteries of the rainforest on this beautiful hike. While this hike is more rigorous than our rainforest mysteries trail, the paths are well groomed so you can relax & admire the surroundings.

Although you are in the thick of the jungle, the path opens up several times to allow you to get a better look at the forest that surrounds you. Birds, sloths & the famous poison dart frogs are just a few of the animals you might see on this hike.

While this hike does not require you to get too muddy, we provide rubber boots for all those people who do not have appropriate footwear. We encourage you to bring your camera as there are plenty of opportunities to take photos. For additional details or to schedule this tour please contact us.

DURATION: 2 hours

PRICE: Luna Guests $25, Non-Guests $45* (*add a delicious organic lunch for $12/pp)

CORRIDOR REFORESTATION PROJECT
In an effort to encourage the large mammals (such as the jaguar & puma), to return to healthy numbers in our forest, we have begun a project building biological corridors. Species which require a large area of forest to live & hunt happily can increase in numbers when they are not confined to a single area or altitude. Due to invasive human construction much of their natural habitat has been divided.

Come with us to this biological corridor & plant a tree to help us achieve our goal of connecting the 50 hectares of Luna Nueva's rain forest with the 22,500 hectares of The Children's Eternal Rain Forest. Our hope is that through planting trees that extend sections of the rain forest we can create protected corridors, enabling wildlife to travel through much larger areas.

While we can preserve our section of the rain forest, it won't be enough to preserve its inhabitants unless their natural habitat is extended. For additional details or to schedule this tour please contact us.

DURATION:

PRICE: Luna Guests $20, Non-guests $___* (*add a delicious organic lunch for $12/pp)

TRES LUNAS HIKE
Stroll through our Cacao orchard & past our chickens into the densest rainforest on our property. This hike takes you up a shallow stream, so we provide rubber boots to keep you dry.

Our expert guide will point out all the details of the rainforest, so that you don´t miss any of its numerous wonders. You will see the giant root systems of the looming trees, thick vines, & everything that comes with a dense jungle environment.

We encourage you to bring your camera as there are plenty of opportunities to take photos. For additional details or to schedule this tour please contact us.

DURATION: 2 hours

PRICE: Luna Guests $25, Non-Guests $45* (*add a delicious organic lunch for $12/pp)

ESPLENDOR RIVER WATERFALL HIKE
This beautiful waterfall is located on a beautiful rolling creek. Wear your bathing suit, because the waterfall has a swimming hole, which is a great way to refresh yourself after the rigorous hike. The hike, which takes you through a nearby river corridor will allow you to experience the true Costa Rican rainforest.

While this hike is not as difficult as a few of our other hikes, it does require you to walk through some mud & a little bit of water, so we can provide you with rubber boots if you want.

DURATION: 2 hours

PRICE: Luna Guests $25, Non-Guests $45* (*add a delicious organic lunch for $12/pp)

Our guided tours & hikes are just one of the ways in which we stand out from other area eco-lodges. As an Organic BioDynamic Farm we have provided tours to botanists & biologists since our founding in 1994. When we built our eco-lodges in 2004 we began to offer these tours to our guests too!

Massage Therapy
Massage therapy is defined as the manipulation of the soft tissues of the body for the purpose of obtaining and maintaining health. If we have restrictions in these tissues, the whole body is affected in some way. The practice of massage dates back at least 5,000 years and is still considered an important modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat symptoms of illness. Modern research has shown that many physiological changes occur with massage beyond that of relaxation and pain reduction. These include: release of restrictions in soft tissue; removal of toxins in the body; enhanced blood circulation which in turn increases nutrients to organs and cells; reduced swelling; reduced blood pressure; endorphin release to allow for a general feeling of well-being; promoting sleep, an increase of the oxygen capacity in the blood; and generally promoting homeostasis or balance of the body for enhancing our own self healing mechanisms to name a few. Medical experts agree that the high levels of stress in our busy lives are responsible for 80% to 90% of the disease processes in our body. Massage therapy stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system to reduce these stress hormones and assist in combating the effects of daily stress on our body.

Manual Techniques
Lymphatic Massage
Because lymph fluid moves slowly without aid of its own pump, inactivity can seriously restrict its flow. Muscular contraction through exercise and deep breathing is the primary means by which our lymph circulates, but lymphatic massage and drainage provide another helpful option.
As lymphatic system circulates fats, proteins and immune cells and removes bacteria, viruses and cholesterol as well, regular lymph massage (particularly around the abdomen, axillary nodes, and breast) can be great preventive health maintenance.

Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a Japanese “finger pressure massage” that is based on the holistic system of traditional Chinese medicine, where illness is thought to result from imbalances in the natural flow of energy, or qi through the body.

Healing Stone Massage
Stone massage is a form of bodywork that involves the application of heated or cooled stones (thermotherapy) to the body during deep tissue massage.

Swedish massage
A tension releasing massage consisting of long strokes, kneading and friction techniques on the more superficial layers of the muscles, combined with active and passive movements of the joints.

Thai Massage
Ancient bodywork practices from Thailand are enhanced with massage and stretches to increase muscle relaxation and flexibility, all of which is performed without oils or undressing.

Cranio-Sacral Therapy
Subtle pressure and light massage between the skull and the base of the spine stimulates circulation of cerebral-spinal fluid, allowing it to flow more freely.

FACIALS
European Facial
A comprehensive and satisfying regimen of cleansing, steam application, exfoliation and light massage of the face, shoulders and chest area, followed by a special hydrating facial mask.

Exfoliation
When the top layer of dead skin cells is sloughed off by a dry brush, loofah scrub or salt, clay, sugar or seed rub, the underlying layer reveals a fresher, more radiant complexion.

The Luna Belavi
This anti-aging features the use of cosmeceutical and organic grade botanicals that cleanse, tone, clarify and moisturize the skin while engaging the senses. Clients see and feel the difference after the first treatment.

Other benefits of the soft laser include increased blood and oxygen flow promoting nutrition to the skin cells, stimulation of elastin and collagen production, lymph drainage to remove toxins, smoothing of facial lines and wrinkles, stress reduction, and many more.

Arenal Volanic Mud Mask and Facial
Rich, mineralized mud is prepared with oil or water as a soothing heat pack, detoxifying the skin, easing sore muscles and enhancing circulation.

Detox Ionic Foot Bath
The human body is like a giant magnet that attracts and holds on to toxins. Heavy metals and a vast array of other toxins attach themselves in ionized form to joints, organs, arteries, nerves and tissues, disrupting their function. This creates an environment for disease, allergies and immune system breakdowns.

The Ionic Detox Footbath treatments gently cleanse unwanted chemicals from the body. The treatment consists of placing the client’s feet into warm water treated by natural sea salt and a ionic array which generates a programmable mix of positive and negative ions (charged atoms) that can balance meridians and normalize pH. The toxins are pulled out of the body through the feet. You will see as the water changes color which organ or system is detoxing.

Healthy individuals can expect to feel lighter, more energy and experience a greater feeling of well-being. Some clients with pain, edema, gout, headaches and swollen joints have reported immediate relief. Other clients with arthritis, allergies, limp edema, neuralgia and other symptoms have experienced relief and benefits with multiple treatments.

Delux Detox Ionic Foot Bath includes foot massage aromatherapy.

HOLISTIC THERAPEUTIC TREATMENTS
Meditation
Meditation is fitness training for the mind. Until we can calm and control our mind, we will never know happiness. We wash about in currents of emotions, stress, demands and desires as we try to find ourselves. Meditation gives us a fixed point to anchor our awareness, allowing us then to observe the currents as they pass. Understanding gained through meditation will give you lifelong peace that is unshakeable.

Aculaser Soft Laser
Just as the Western medical doctor monitors the blood flowing through blood vessels and the messages traveling via the nervous system, the soft light laser practitioner assesses the flow and distribution of our "vital energy" (a vital force that animates the body) within its pathways, known as "meridians and channels". Aculaser uses a soft-pulsed light laser on specific points on the body to help alleviate pain and other symptoms. It can be very effective in musculoskeletal complaints, as well as balancing organ systems according to Traditional Chinese Medicine.

ENERGY RESTRUCTURE
This modality combines focused breathing with light touch and healing mantras to create positive energy shifts in the emotional, mental, and physical body. The result is release of pain, anxiety, and emotional distress. Energy Restructure works within the chakra system, opening the gates to new, deeper levels of love, joy, freedom, health, abundance, and peace. The client remains clothed. Session lasts 60-75 minutes.

Reiki Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a system of Enlightenment and a Hands on Healing art developed in the early 1900's by Mikao Usui in Japan. It is an art that is passed from Master to student. The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words - Rei and Ki, meaning Universal Life Force Energy. The term "Reiki" is used to describe both the energy and the Usui system of using it. A standard treatment includes placing the hands on various areas of the body, such as the head, shoulders, stomach, knees and feet. People's experiences vary during a Reiki session; however, most people feel the energy as heat. They may feel tingling, vibrating or waves of energy from the hands of the practitioner.

As the Reiki energy begins to release blocks caused by tension, anxiety, fear, or other negative thoughts and feelings, some people drift off to sleep or enter into a light dreamlike state. Some see colors, report spiritual experiences and mystical visions.
At the end of the treatment, one feels relaxed and refreshed with a positive, more balanced outlook.Reiki is excellent for assisting in the healing of any physical, mental, emotional and spiritual issues of any kind and it gives wonderful results.

We also offer Reiki training in all levels of Reiki by a Master Reiki Teacher.

EFT
EFT is based on a revolutionary new discovery that facilitates deep inner healing. It contends that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system. With remarkable consistency, EFT relieves symptoms by an unusual (but scientific) routine of tapping with the fingertips on a short series of points on the body that correspond to acupuncture points on the energy meridians. Where there is an imbalance, there is a corresponding blockage in the flow of energy through the meridian system.

The tapping serves to release the blockages that are created when a person thinks about or becomes involved in an emotionally disturbing circumstance. When this blockage is released, the emotions come into balance. Once balanced, the person cannot get upset about the circumstance no matter how hard they try. The memory remains but the charge is gone. Typically, the result is lasting and the person's awareness usually changes in a positive way as a natural result of the healing.

Most energetic imbalances may be partially or completely relieved within a short time using this process. Others may be relieved through repetition of the process. Some examples of energetic patterns that have been successfully cleared using EFT:
    * Fears related to performance like public speaking, concentration, sports, etc.
    * Phobias like the fear of heights, flying, enclosed spaces, driving, etc.
    * Emotional trauma from war experiences, physical abuse, etc.
    * Disturbing emotions like depression and anger.
    * Emotions related to addictive patterns like eating and smoking
    * Insomnia
    * Emotions related to physical conditions.

Reflexology
Reflexology is an ancient healing technique that deals with the principle that there are reflex areas/zones in the feet and hands, which correspond to all of the glands, organs and parts of the body. Reflexology is a unique method of using the thumb and fingers on these reflex areas/zones. This creates an immediate and positive response within the body. Benefits of Reflexology include, but are not limited to; stress and tension relief, deep relaxation, improved circulation, assists nature in achieving homeostasis. Anam Cara Wellness Services' signature reflexology session includes a delicately scented footbath to begin your experience, a simple foot assessment, and then a carefully selected organic essential oil is applied to your feet to enhance and assist with the relaxation strokes, softening the feet as you glide into a deeply relaxing experience.. This art gives invaluable information on the health and function of many organs and body systems. At the same time it heavenly for tired feet.

Floral Remedies & Essential Oils
Developed in Britain by a doctor named Edward Bach, Back Flower Remedies are said to work on an ‘energetic level’, healing different states of mind through the essence of flowers. Initially, Bach produced 38 different essences that work on specific emotional conditions such as depression, anxiety, guilt and envy. Now you can also discover the Costa Rican healing essences. Our consultation guides you through issues that are most important at this time, and include remedies made individually to help you overcome these issues.

Aquatic bodywork
This involving stretching and Shiatsu (pressure-point techniques) while floating in warm naturally ozonated chlorine free Jacuzzi.. The water temperature set ideally for experiencing a sensation of deep relaxation. Gentle stretching and acupressure increases flexibility and strengthens muscles.

Through deep physical and mental relaxation, the conscious mind becomes an observer as you access the light of your higher self. Your deep inner healer guides you in discovering and releasing the subconscious causes of underlying patterns or limitations that have been causing adverse circumstances in your life. Guided imagery and positive suggestion help you clear the inappropriate patterns (or energy blocks) that have been hampering your life. In the case of Regression Therapy, the subconscious energy blocks have resulted from one or more traumatic events in the past, which are brought forward and released during the session.

Tai Chi
A traditional Chinese mind-body relaxation exercise consisting of several exercise sequences which are originally derived from martial arts (and perhaps even more ancestrally than that, from the natural movements of animals and birds). These movements are performed in a slow relaxed manner with smooth and even transitions between them. One of the avowed aims of Tai Chi is to foster the circulation of the vital force within the body, so the health and vitality of the person are enhanced.

Yoga
Yoga is much more than postural alignment (asanas) and breathing. Yoga is an ancient indian spiritual practice that helps the individual unify his body, mind, and spirit.

Pilates is like a cross between yoga, stretching and calisthenics. It enhances body alignment and balance, strengthens the abs, back and stabilizer muscles and stretches, strengthens and relaxes your body. With systematic practice of specific exercises coupled with focused breathing patterns, Pilates has proven itself invaluable also as an important adjunct to professional sports training and physical rehabilitation of all kinds.

COSTA RICA GAY TRAVEL GUIDE

. Welcome to http://CostaRicaGayTravelGuide.com - a COSTA RICA GAY ...

Updated: May 11, 2009 11:57pm PST

MANUEL ANTONIO, COSTA RICA : I haven't updated this info lately but here's what I've gathered:

GETTING TO MANUEL ANTONIO / QUEPOS
If you are considering the driving route to M.A. - I HIGHLY welcome you to consider hiring a driver (to me this is the BEST BEST BEST way to see Costa Rica - especially on your first trip as if you are driving yourself – if you take a bus or fly, you will only get about 5% of the experience as you would hiring a Guide/Driver [CR does NOT have addresses & few street signs & VERY FEW road signs, the roads are OFTEN crappy if not worse - Many filled with BIG potholes, sometimes SUDDENLY missing manhole covers, etc. - to say nothing about the “fun” (NOT) rickety bridges you get to cross over that when you look down between the open WOOD slats - you will see the alligator infested water below. There is NO WAY I will be owning a car in CR as I drive like Mario Andretti which you can NOT do here & I would have ulcers & kill people. Taxi's keep me sane, happy, not having to worry about the car getting broken into or worse, etc.).

To me, the BEST experience is to hire a Guide/Driver to take you TO Manuel Antonio (or wherever) & fly BACK on NatureAir (below). Not only is it an AWESOME way to fly/see C.R. but it is only a 20 min. flight (vs. a 3++ hour, not so fun at times drive)! (if you’re limited in time, you can fly down to M.A. & meet up with the driver there & have him bring you back so you get some touring time/to see things. NOTE though – it gets dark around 5:30-6pm here.

FLY - Flying to Quepos (that’s the airport you’d fly into to go to Manuel Antonio & take a bus, taxi or a shuttle into MA) is just 25 minutes by air from the San Jose area (vs. 3-4++ hours driving). It’s an AWESOME way to see CR. Need to get an ocean/beach fix &/or don’t have much time? This is a NICE QUICK way to get there!!
NATUREAIR (http://NatureAir.com / 1-800-235-9272-US / 2-299-6000-within CR). MY #1 CHOICE! #1 - You fly in/out of Pavas Airport (WAY better/easier than the main Santamaria/SJO airport, ESPECIALLY if you’re in San Jose or the South/West end of the Central Valley (like Escazu, Santa Ana, etc.) & it’s just 7 min. from the Fountains Guesthouse (with no traffic). #2 - I also LOVE this airline because they’re the FIRST (& to date, the only) Carbon Neutral Airline http://NatureAir.com/why-fly-nature-air-costa-rica.aspx #3 - Customer Service has been GREAT EVERY TIME I’ve called them!! #4 – They have the coolest design on their airplanes!! LAST MINUTE - check their web site for last minute specials (especially the day before. Once I got a Guest a $27 one-way & $45 return going the next day – just for the day!). Their planes are 19 passenger twin-engine puddle jumpers (personally I feel VERY SAFE in them!! Especially compared to the other airline option with a single engine). NOTE: In rainy season I wouldn’t fly in the afternoon unless I had to (AROUND June-beginning of Nov. being the peak of it) & ESPECIALLY in windy season (about Dec./Jan.). If you book your flight through NatureVacations ONLY, you can purchase a pretty cheap transfer to wherever you’re going (which you can’t booking air only through the regular ticket line). Make sure to ask for Leanne (LHuntley@NatureAir.com) & tell her Vicki referred you!! Currently in Green/low season they from FROM Pavas at 9am or 2:30pm & return at 7:50am, 10:45am & 3pm

SANSA - Flies from Santamaria/SJO (the main) airport. This is great if you’re arriving in/out of SJO airport immediately if you can connect properly and if you’re staying on the north side of the Central Valley (like Alajuela) but if you’re in San Jose or on the West end, factor in another $20 or so dollars each way to get to/from. NOTE: Sansa planes only have ONE engine (for the love of Goddess, I just can not figure out their website) (2-221-9414 / http://flysansa.com)

DRIVER/GUIDE - Oscar is the BEST driver/guide I’ve found ANYWHERE!! He’s actually gone and LIVED in the jungle for periods of time to study the animals/flora/fauna!! If he takes you into Manuel Antonio Park, you will often find many of the “official” Park Guides latching onto Oscar’s tour as he has so much knowledge on things++!
Another REALLY GOOD one is Carlos (in his off time he’s also a Forest Ranger & is a driver/guide in his off time).

DRIVER/TRANSPORTATION ONLY - Just need a driver/transportation – I use Frank Chicas’ Enjoying Costa Rica Tours. He has quite a few English-speaking drivers & 8 LEGAL Tourism vans – many less than a year old (& he can hook you up with larger buses+).
Nella at Exotur (http://exotur.com / info@exotur.com / 011-506-8-384-7403) - GO

To connect with all of these, email me at CostaRicaResourceGuide@gmail.com or call – from the U.S./Canada call on my San Diego # - 1-619-819-2726 or within Costa Rica – 8-378-6679

BUS - Transportes Morales (SJ-2-223-5567, Quepos-2-777-0263) - Route 613 Quepos & Manuel Antonio Express departs daily from the Coco Cola Terminal (Calle 16 & Avenida 1- Avenida 3) in San Jose (the CocaCola Terminal is where you’d catch the blue Santa Ana-Calle Vieja bus to come to the Fountains Guesthouse). The DIRECT Bus leaves from SJ at 6am, 9am (Mon.-Sat.), noon, 2:30pm & 5pm and takes 3 3/4 hours. It returns FROM Quepos at 4am (Mon.-Sat.), 6am, 9:30am, noon, 2:30pm & 5pm. PRICE: around $5. REGULAR/COLECTIVO (slow boat to China/making LOTS of stops) leaves at 7am, 10am, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm & 5pm (Mon.-Fri.) & returns at 5, 8am, 2pm & 4pm & takes ABOUT 4 1/2 hours.
Transportes Unidos la Costanera - REGULAR service – Route 639 which goes to Playa Dominical/Uvita but drops people off in Quepos. It leaves SJ at 7am, 11:30am & 1:30pm (Sat. & Sun.). 4 hours to Quepos.
From Quepos you catch a Route 653 Shuttle Bus that runs every 20 min.
(note buses do NOT have bathrooms so you get to stop when THEY tell you to stop/go!! [not good if you have a small bladder])

SHUTTLE - INTERBUS - Picks up in Sabana Norte - In front of Crowne Plaza Corabisi Hotel AT the Oxydental Torre Molino (in front of Mas x Menos) - HOURS: SJ to M.A.-8:15am or 2:30pm / Returns 7:45am / 1:45pm. - $39 each way.

THINGS TO DO DURING THE DAY
MANUEL ANTONIO NATIONAL PARK is a MUST MUST MUST SEE/DO!!! You WILL see all sorts of wildlife here – ESPECIALLY if you’re with the right guide!! Hire your own Personal Guide – I hear GREAT things about Gama (8-818-8207 / HolaGama@yahoo.com) who’s $45/per person(includes tickets, water and fruit) for about 3 hours (discounts for groups). Hire a Tour Guide within the park for about 2 hours - $25 (I’ve also seen $39) + $7 ticket/per person (2 person minimum). It's high but WELL worth it!! HOURS: Tues.-Sun. 7am-4pm (you MUST leave BY 4pm as often the incoming tide cuts off the park’s exit and in come the crocodiles!) - CLOSED on Mon. PRICE: $7 entrance. It’s at the Southern end of this area. Better yet – hire Oscar with Enjoying Costa Rica Tours (871-2900) to drive you from wherever to Manuel Antonio and get an EARLY start so he can lead you into the park. I’ve had MANY Guests do this and each time they said that the OTHER “official” park guides were jumping in on Oscars tours!!! He has AMAZING knowledge (but if you go every so often to live in the jungles to learn more – you’d be pretty darn AMAZING also!!!).

SCUBA DIVING Trip - For clients taking our Discover Scuba Diving Course or involved with other courses, Pick up time may be as early as 7am. The dive shop is the first stop: all divers must complete some simple paperwork. This is a PADI guideline. At this time we also get equipment sizing if it wasn’t taken on the reservation phone call. Within a few minutes the divers will be on their way to the pier where the dive team will welcome them on the boat. All gear will be prepared and ready for the divers. The first dive site is within 15 to 25 minutes. As we leave the pier the PADI Certified Dive master or Instructor onboard will brief the divers as to where the dive site is and their expectations. Divers begin to suit up, and go down for their first dive. Upon completion of the first dive the divers have fruits, juices and water during the surface interval, along with a fresh water shower. Surface time is spent cruising the Manuel Antonio waters, visiting with the Dolphins and the Whales, as we cruise around the park. Within 30 to 45 minutes we are ready for dive #2 at a different dive site. Once again the divers will get a briefing from the Divemaster. Upon completion of dive #2 the boat begins its return to the pier; transportation will be waiting for the clients. There will be a brief stop at the dive shop for divers to complete logbooks, then back to your hotel.
Fun Dive: for certified divers, includes total equipment package. 2-tank dive. $100
Discover Scuba Diving Course: 5 hours with instruction and dives, includes scuba lesson at the pool, with 2 ocean dives. Must dive with dive instructor no deeper then 40ft/12mtr. All equipment included. $175

DOIN IT RIGHT - IN PUERTO VALLARTA & COSTA RICA

V-111 - A VERY colorful, Mexican rusticy-style 6-7-bedroom villa (actually – 3 completely self-contained 2-bedroom units & one 1-bedroom apartment in the same compound) sleeps up to 14 people between Old Town/SouthSide/Muertos & Conchas Chinas beach side. You can go down to the beach at the southern end by walking down about 100 stairs or go north on Amapas & around a few condos to get to the Blue/GREEN Chairs (no need to go to the gym here. Or be lazy like me & call a taxi!! They’re plentiful usually! You can just go down less than a block to the Mesa del Mar Hotel to get one if you don’t want to call).

There is Air-Conditioning ONLY in 2 bedrooms but because of it’s location – you usually have pretty decent airflow throughout the property (especially late Nov till around April where you’ll want to bring a jacked for evening). Each room has a ceiling fan.

All beds are ONLY Kings except if you're renting the 1-bedroom.

2-bedroom Casa – 2-bedrooms (one bedroom here has air-conditioning), 2-bathrooms (each with shower), microwave, blender, stove & oven, 2 tvs, boombox, dvd, one bedroom with bay view, second bedroom with no view (but interesting architecture), bay view from kitchen, dining/livingroom & large upstairs den off bedroom as well as balconies. There are another 10-12 to the main floor of the "casa" & 12-14 to the second floor of the house.

2-bedroom Upper Unit - 2-bedrooms (both with king beds), 2-bathrooms (one bathroom with shower/tub & the other - just shower), microwave, blender, stove, house, 2 tvs, boombox, dvd, Bay views in each bedroom, kitchen with stove, dining/livingroom & balconies. The upper unit is at the same level as the upstairs of the casa and is connected by a bridge at the stairs.

2-bedroom Lower Unit - 2-bedrooms (both with king beds. One bedroom here has air-conditioning), 2-bathrooms (one bathroom with shower/tub & the other - just shower), 2 tvs, boombox, dvd, Bay views in each bedroom, kitchen with stove, microwave & blender, dining/livingroom & balconies. The lower unit is at the same level as the first floor of the casa

1-bedroom Poolside Room does NOT have a full kitchen. It does have a mini-fridge, microwave, tv & fan & Double bed. Stairs - From the street there are about 20 stairs to the 1-bedroom poolside apt.

The 14'x10', 4' deep SMALL Dipping pool is not heated and rarely gets sun.

There’s also a Wet Bar (fyi - the pool is NOT "secluded" so you get to keep your clothes on since neighbors CAN see in & you don't want to be kicked out or arrested I'm sure!!). The casa has WiFi wireless internet connection (bring your own laptop)!

Your Housekeeper works Mon.-Sat. (11am-5pm-ish with some flexibility) doing the basics (she does NOT do dishes but you can hire her for extra time to do those. If you’ve hired her to cook she will do the dishes). Towels & sheets are changed every 3 days (additional laundry is $5/load [$10 if ironed]). The property has a washer/dryer which you can use.

A Cook is NOT included but can be for $7.50/per person/per meal (based on a min. of 10 people) plus tips, taxi, food and drinks and must be paid for/arranged in advance.

NOTE: There is mariachi fiesta music at the nearby Mesa del Mar till around 10:30pm nightly.

You can borrow a cell phone though you’ll need to buy time on a phone card (the Administrator has those).

When you arrive the administrator will go through a Walk-Through/Check List with you to make sure everything is in working order, etc. ALL non-registered guests (including our own cook) MUST be registered by the property manager!

Please be considerate of the neighbors by keeping the noise level down (especially after 10pm).

These owners do NOT NOT NOT allow you to bring non-registered guests back as they have LOTS of original artwork plus it is NOT NOT NOT a place for partiers!!!
